NH Super 77 Baler Changing Bale Size??

I have a friend who has a Super 77 baler and I help him out occasionally on the fields. One of the problems with this baler is that it puts out 50-75lbs bales that are 3-4 feet long. Is there any way to adjust it so that we can have smaller bales?

I don't know much about the 77, or any others either, but we have had a problem in the past with our 271 putting out long bales. The metering wheel(star wheel)runs on bale turning a small friction disk at the end of it's shaft. The trip arm runs on the disk. It "climbs" upward to a point where there's a notch in arm,tripping knotters. The disk is located on the end of the metering wheel shaft between two cupped washers and has notches on the outside diameter for friction, and if they get worn out, baler will put out long bales different size bales,etc. Check it out, they are inexpensive & your NH dealer should have them. Another bit of advice I learned the hard way as a kid, NEVER put any oil on this disk. If you do, it'll never trip and you'll have a "neverending" bale. Hope this helps!

The star wheel that touches the bale and makes it trip was available for 2 length bales, maybe a salvage yard near you has the other size wheel.

Ah thanks for all the comments guys! I will have to see if we can machine out a new wheel for that. Will let my friend know and see what happens!

The bales typically run 3 feet. I didn't have a tape measure and was guessing that 4 feet!

If anyone knows where I can find that wheel let me know too! That will save a lot of hassle!

Well the bales should be 36 inches long. Your other choice is 18 inches. I made a jack shaft with chain and sprockets on mine to reduce size to about 31 inches. Something is funny if you get 48 inch bales.
