Just purchased a decent Gehl 1090 mower-conditioner. Am going over it and am wondering what to look for mechanically. Any tips on setup or preventive maintenance? Anyone know the vintage of this model? Seems to cut hay pretty well.

Also seems to have a slight knock down in the rocker arm area. Any thoughts on what that could be? I want to address it before we go very far afield with this crate!

Gehl moco was never very popular compared to NH and others. In fact, nothing was as popular or dependable as the NH models. But, since you have one, and found a noise in the rocker arm- I assume you mean the sickle drive area, I would pull off the arm that drives the sickle- likely to find worn splines on either the driveshaft from the gearbox or the arm that drives the sickle. Hopefully it is on the arm, rather than the driveshaft, but likely to be both. Depends which is harder material. Once they start to wear, they only get worse. Best to replace now. If the drive is tapered, maybe a new arm, well tightened, will solve the problem. If the driveshaft is worn, replace both shaft and arm. Cheaper in the long run.

Shoulda done the looking (elsewhere) before you bought. These machines are old and weren't very good when new. The 1090 is not listed in my 1977 I&T Redbook, but is in the 1984 issue.
