cylinder problem

I purchased a breather plug for a cylinder for my d15 ac. The problem i am having is the piston moves the implement but flluid blows out the plug hole on the breather. I have it on the top of the clyinder and tried revering it but it does not move the piston. I've had this problem before on a diferent cylinder and do not reminder what i did to correct the problem. It blows alot of fluid out not just a drip Any ideas would be helpful

The cylinder is leaking past the pistion to the other side. You will need to rebuild or replace the cylinder.

the breather just allows a double acting cylinder to be used as a single acting with out sucking in damaging dust. the rebuild parts are available for under $15.00.

This sounds familiar. We had a single action hydraulic cylinder on an old chisel plow. Seems to me that it would do the same thing that you mention. I took the cylinder apart, cleaned it up and put new packings in it. Last time I saw or heard, this cylinder was still working like it was supposed to. This repair job was done back in the '80s.
