Kuhn Tedder Question

I have recently acquired a Kuhn tedder (GT 254) and I LOVE IT. But have a problem. I need to replace a bearing in the outer section by the hinge point. NH was able to print me off a parts break down while waiting on book. I went and started disassembling it and ran into a problem. The fella who had it before I had welded the pin for the rollers to the shaft. Which means I can't remove the pin to slide the bearing on/off. So I went to pull the other end (outside) so I could pull the shaft out and fix it properly. After removing the 5 bolts to the outside basket, It would not separate and I didn't want to force it. I can't tell from the drawing just what is keeping it together. As far as I can tell (drawing again) it should have slipped out with a gear on the end of the shaft. Is the bearing pressed into the tube, housing, or is there a keeper I am not seeing on the drawing?

Errin OH,

You've got my ears burning!! but that is a'nother story from days gone by..... ...

'was told' -- so don't take it to the bank!! --

after you get the outside carriage/gear housing off, look for a roll pin that holds the gear on the shaft..... knock the rollpin out to remove the gear & then the shaft should come out the opposite end (where the pins have been welded..... ) the bearings are just friction held in the housing, & should come out with the shaft..... ..to remove the bearing from the shaft with welded pins would mean, moving it the entire length of the shaft?? might be easier to just grind the welds loose - knock the center part of the pins out of the shaft & get new pins & tack them back in place if the holes are wollered out to much to hold in place without welding..... ..

again----don't know for sure that is how it is, as I've never been that far into it, ---just third party hearsay..... ....from a joint venture that 'went south' on an already 'wore out' tedder, a while back. (ps.. the pins were probably welded in, as the holes they fit in were probably wobbled out from wear & wouldn't hold the pins as intended....[been there - done that!!])

& will agree -- really like my kuhn tedder -- but prefer the drawbar towed style to the 3pt style that I have now.
