I have a 241 round baler that I have been restoring to usable condition - it has taken a couple of years but I got 2 bales last year - did some more modifications at the end of last year - fired it up yesterday and did 10 bales in an afternoon - much better than I expected - only a couple more and this year would have been done - got to dark last night to finish - not into the night baling yet

anyway this is the question. I know how long the new belts are supposed to be - in a spreadsheet i have somewhere at home AND i know my belts are all about 3 or feet too short (they do match in length though) and I have been making new belts for it out of thrown away John Deere baler belts and adding some length to the ones I have.....

So how long are the belts you are running ? are they the real length they are supposed to be? do you have trouble starting bales (that is my problem with the belts being too short) and how slack is there when you have an empty chamber.....

Kelly, I too have one of these, and I am rebuilding it. Any idea where I can find a manual to include a parts listing.

Thanks

Neil

Belts.... Hmmmmm. Well I have all of them.
I am just as new to a 241 as you are. I will say from some people I have talked to. Too short of belts is not a good thing. Bale starting is the main reason. Plus you can break your baler. 3 feet short is pretty short. Be ok if you only made half size bales I guess. A full size one and you might break those arms and rollers off.

You need to get a good thick wad of hay in there to get it to start and roll. Swerve from one side of the wind row to the other to fill her even.
I had to losen up the compresion roller a bit to get mine to feed. The previous owner had it as tight as it would go for some reason. Just rolled the hay up in front of it. I losened it up and she would gulp all I could run at her.

I also noticed on mine that some one had put a peice of pipe and washers on the bolt side of the spring tightner. This allows you to tighten the spring all the way to the end of the eye bolt. Maybe an extra inch of tension. Works so I am leaving it alone.

Mine makes nice tight bales. 300 bucks is a pretty cheap price for a big baler.
I am doing 35 acres with it for a guy this weekend. $15 for 1st 35 bales the $10 a bale after that. SHould have my baler paid for by Sunday any bales after that are proffit.
