I'm looking for what used to be called a pasture seeder or renovator. Sort of a heavy duty drill used like a no-till corn planter in existing sod to reseed pasture or meadows. New ones run way too much and I don't know what models of older ones were around. Anyone even know if they work as they were supposed to, or what else would work- other than frost seeding?

Rent! Rent! Rent! Drills that dont work can waste a fortune in seed in short order. No use tying up a lot of $$ in owning something that be rented as reasonably as a drill.

Contact your county extention agent/office. They USUALLY have at their disposal, a rental drill for such work. Ours has a HAYBUSTER brand drill that rents very reasonabley. The one we can rent, is easily pulled on the hilliest of ground, with a 50HP tractor, or bigger. Might just be cheaper in the long run, and give you better results. John

Yes we rent Haybuster Drills for $7 per acre. We have used ones that come off rental as well. We also sell the coulters and disc complete units with the Heavy Duty bearings for $38 each.

Howdy Doc. I'm shopping for a drill of my own. I've been eyeing a TYE drill, but am a fan of the Haybuster line. I need one for several upcoming "projects". I see the opportunity to pay for one, so that I own it for my own use. If you would, send me any info you can, on ones you have for sale. I'm in the Louisville, Kentucky area. I can haul it myself, should we make a deal. Send info to; [email protected] Thanks. John

Both are good brands, and having used a Tye for the past 10 years (no-till with coulters and grass seed, legume seed, and fluffy-grass boxes on it) I would not have any concerns about buying a Tye. I don't have as much experience with Haybuster but know those who do, and you won't go wrong if you get one of those either. We have seeded everything from soybeans to indian grass to clover, alfalfa, vetch, switchgrass, timothy...you name we did it.
