I have a McCormick 22 sickle bar that I run on my international 140. every time i lift the bar up the sickle falls out. I think i am missing a retaining block on the end. Does any one know what it is called and where I can find one. Thanks; Shawn

Shawn: You could be missing one of two items; number 1 a small turned up piece of metal on end of hold down plate could be broken off. These are quite easily fabricated by welding a piece of metal where it broke off. This is at 90 degrees to plate.

The second item is the 1-1/4" stem protruding from side of pitman clamp and catches on the first piece I mentioned, and could be broke off. Not sure how successful you will be at welding this back on.

In either case you should be able to see the break where it broke from. Another thing you can do is put a light chain under pitman arm near the end, and loose enough so it doesn't interfere with operation yet holds cutter from droping when in upright position. The chain or other subsitute will also hold the pitman arm in place should you be using tractor for other jobs without a cutter in place.

Could also just be the pitman just turned over so that pin is on wrong side, I have seen this

Leroy: While I said I had never seen this, thinking about it my guess is it would be next to impossible to couple pitman to the cutter with the pitman up side down, at least on an IH mower.

The one I seen it on was a New Idea, and it would be possible an any of the mowers I have setting here, IHC horse and tractor, MM, Ford, Ferguson, Oliver, NI, verry easy done, complet pitman turned upside down or just the clamp bolted upside down
