276 NH Baler headaches

Hello,
Have a 276 baler that produces uneven bales.

Looking at the baler from the rear, the left side of the bale is lighter (less dense) than the right. When the bale clears the chute it is curved and in most cases will curve until it busts open. Not a good thing!

The knotted strings are the same length when checked.

The tensioning screws on sides of chute produce little or no effect when changed.

Any expert/experienced advice would be VERY appreciated.

Thanks,

Frank Anderton

Thanks to all that have responded!

NHBalerman - I live in Kansas sw of KC. Wish you were closer. Hard if not impossible to find anyone here that can work on them that knows what they are doing. Haven't found one yet!

Willl check out the things suggested as soon as it dries out enough to get the baler out again. Has rained here for TWO days.

Will give feedback on what I find.

Thanks again!
Frank

Where are you located? I can make any of them NH balers make a perfect bale in any size windrow, done several of them for several years now with good results. If you live any where close to me or if you can send me the feeder I can fix it for you where it will make good bales and then you will throw rocks at any of them green machines. I love JD equipment but I hate their square balers, got one out here right now and the knotters were tore down and the man quit and they want me to fix it and it ain't made as good as a NH. Oh yeah, back on the main subject, I live in East Texas if I can be of any help let me know.

I,ve been lucky. Have never had a Bannana out of my NH68.
Few things though. There are 4 hay stops inside the bale chamber. Most I have seen are wore out. replace those. 2 bucks each + new bolts.
Run as big a windrow as you can and run it as close to the plunger side of the pick up as you can.
New Hollands like to be fed just right. To much and you plug her and to little and you get Bannanas.

trick is to make it easy for your baler to get a full charge of hay accross the width of the chamber.
JD's dont care they just pack what ever you feed it. Nh's are picky and you need to feed her just right.

Frank; this is common problem of the red balers until the 570 model they finally took Deeres method and installed packer fork. YOu are just no gettin enough hay to the far side of the chamber.Try setting the feeder forks close as you can to the far side, this will help. Thats why they are called banana balers in my area. get yourself a 300 series Deere and you will find this problem dissappear. Been their and done that. I am not partial to colors, but in this case green does do better than red until the 570 series red baler. Rick good luck

adj. your sweep tines to put more hay in the chamber on each stroke, also make your windrows a consistant size & try adjusting the ground speed, too fast or slow will give a bannana bale.with the sweep tines,if any of the aluminum tine are missing makes a lot of difference.you can slide the lh ones up or down for more or less aggresive feeding.we put in extrahay wedges in the chamber & that made a better bale as well. good luck- Jim S
