NH275 pulling hair out

I have trouble guys. I've adjusted everything according to manual and am still having trouble. Hay is dry as a bone windrows are small and I am running slow Low 1st. But when I try to make a decent bale string that twine holder is holding winds up on bill hook and somehow gets on backside of knife blade that is supposed to cut it. I'm just about at my wits end loads of fun now. Please help. When bales are real light it doesn't seem to be a problem.

It seems to me that the speedway squarebaling man gave you the correct answer,CHECK Twine disc timing,also twine fingers,also the knotter frame may have a groove worn in it and not letting the billhook open up enough to grab both ends of the twine,this can be fixed by replacing the knotter frame,building up the groove and grinding down the weld on the frame or if it has the newer style knotter frame that part can be replaced. I answer a lot of questions over the phone and I can talk and we both can describe the problem, but what I understand is the billhook is not grabbing both ends of the twine and it does not get cut. If you don't understand all of this let me know and I will try to help you further.

Sisal twine is more forgiving than plastic, and larger diameter twine is more forgiving than small. Try 7200 sisal. I had a NH 275 that wouldn't bale with plastic, but never missed with sisal. I've also gotten kind of fond of the lack of orange plastic strings laying around the place, too.

Mike> I had that happen a few years ago. Turns out the twine disc was worn and allowing one string to go under the bill. We adjusted the disc to move the string up a little and it has worked fine since. Just a thought. Have someone turn the flywheel over slow and see what is happening to your string.

Your onto it I bet. With little tension the twine stays in the disk. With more tension the twine must be coming loose.

Hey or should I say Hay Mike,
I did have a twine 346 deere baler but now run a wire 346(which is getting some minor surgury right now) and I don't claim to be any kind of knowledge bank for your problem but if worse comes to worse you might call your local dealer and see if they have someone to come out to adjust everything too. I'm sure its something you could do yourself but often times an extra set of eyes can see a problem you might be missing. Just a couple of thoughts.

How is the tension coming out of the twine box. I have had that happen if it is too tight.

tension is o.k. i guess. When i get it to tight the left side starts missing. So I backed off some.

*what size string are you using??
*check twine holder??
*adjust twine disk to 1/4" past the normal point
(manual says 1/8")
*make sure twine fingers are keeping the twine against the bill hook
** on the topic of trying to make a heavy bale, i took all the tension off my press and added 5 sets of hay wedges along the chamber (had to drill some holes but worked great and all of the bales had a perfect shape 70#)
not all will agree with that but it worked for me until i sold the baler nh 277

mike-I had trouble last year with a JD 224T. On one side the knots just kept accumulating on the bill hook. Hold the hose over your head for a few minutes and then tackle it again. These are good machines and they DO work so you must be missing something. First, just to be sure we are OK with it, maybe you should change the twine on that side. Then, in my case, I checked the adjustments to the manual and the clearances were fine. You must have the correct clearance between wiper and billhook AND the wiper must go all the way to the end of it's range of travel to clear the knot. My problem was that the wiper did not travel all the way. Gunk was keeping it from moving the full range and I had to clean it and then work it back and forth several times to get it moving. After that I baled flawlessly. It seems so simple when I write it now, but it was not much fun out in hot sun covered with sweat and itching from pollen and dust. Check it out.

Ok. What you are saying is the knot is getting stuck on the billhook and not getting swiped of by the knife arm. Correct??
Both sides or just one?

Windrow size and your speed are irrelevant to the problem. It�s just covering up for the problem when it bales ok in light hay.

Kelly. What would happen to the string or one of them if it doesn't get cut would that make it wind up on the backside of the knife blade that is supposed to cut it. I wonder if if may need to bend the knife blade up a liitle more and resharpen it. The wiper is already rubbing the billhook.

The knots are not hanging on the bill hook. In making the knot somehow one of the strings winds up behind the knife blade that is supposed to cut it.It seems to me that the bill hook just isn't grabbing that string. I'm puzzled.
