I bought this John Deere plow at an auction in PA. It was a 4 bottom turned into a 3 bottom. It is very heavy duty. I just got it connected up to a cylinder and promptly got stuck in the mud. I took a few pictures while I was waiting to get pulled out. Can anyone tell me the model of this plow. One picture shows some numbers barely visible. It looks like F560 to me but there is another number or letter there I can't make out. Thanks in advance for any help.

Richard, That number is probably right, It is later than a 777H as can be seen by the boxed beam brace. The F600 plow series came in a whole bunch of versions and could have a "A" at the end before the "H" depending on its age. Other factors are stiff or trip standards, beam size and wheel options. I made up a chart for my own use and even with that it takes a while to pinpoint the exact number, but several are covered in the parts catalog anyway. I'd say it is an F-650AH. Bob

Wait, Stan pointed out the leveling crank and on the F600 plows that was only used on the 670 and 680, so from the remains of the decal my vote is for it being an F680AH. Bob

Bob,

My literature collection only goes up to the late '50s...I sort of lost interest in tractors and such until about 17 years ago. A 44H is the biggest plow I ever used.

Wow, I guess you know your plows. Are parts available for these plows? I would like to return it to a 4 bottom if the price doesn't kill me. I also noticed the bottoms have some kind of a trip mechanisum. It looks real rusted up and I doubt it would work. I was going to pull one apart and see what's going on in there. What year where these plow made, do you know? The shares, land slides and "shears"? are all new so I guess some parts are available.

The F600 series plows were made starting in 1960 to 1963 then a "A" was added but I don't know the exact changes. These are too new for me too, but I heve been asked about a few, so I really like looking into the details. An owners manual will show how to test and manually trip the standards, I think parts are probably available from John Deere, and wear parts (points, shins, moldboards etc.) are available aftermarket too.

In looking through my literature stash, the only heavy-duty plow with a crank leveling device is the 777H. It came in 4 and 5 bottom, 14" or 16" and 5 bottom, 16" versions. The 4 and 5 bottoms versions were reducible by one bottom, so this may be what you have. These plows could plow up to 14 inches with the proper bottoms (I don't know what that would mean).

Maybe someone who has used these plows can shed some more light on the subject.

Mine was made to be reduced by one bottom. It has an extra lever location to operate the tail wheel. This was used on mine and the fourth bottom position was left empty. 777H seems wierd though I can't see those numbers. Who knows mabye I'm looking at something else and not the model number. I also see where John Deere was but it's hardly recognizable. Thanks for your help.

Well, I can't offer much more help. I sure hope someone who has used one of these sees your post and is able to help.

Hell, I grew up pulling a 1-16", then a 2-12", then a 2-14"...I really don't know about those "big" 3 bottom or more plows...LOL

Good luck,
