NH 68 Baler slip clutch

Had to rebuild the slip clutch today. The little bearing in the yoke housing gave way, and the shaft got all bunged up. Of course it happened just as the sky was threatening rain. Lost about 400 bales of good timothy. Bought a new clutch kit from NH dealer. Why they call it a kit I don't know, all it is is the shaft and plate that mounts to the flywheel. $65. A little spendy, but I figure my time to build up and turn down the old shaft is worth more than that. With bearing and bushings, a little less than $100 in parts.
Anyway, anybody know how tight to make the clutch springs? Also, anybody got a trick way to sharpen the knife without removing it? The old allen wrench bolts seem stuck in there pretty good, and I don't want to tempt fate by having the baler down when the weather turns good.

Chip, the clutch should slip with 2400 inch pounds of pressure. Divide that by 12 and the figure is 200 ft pounds. If you put a 6 bar on the pto, you would then want 33.33 pounds of force to slip the clutch. In other words, let the plunger hit against the safety latch so it can't move. Find a bar or pipe or any method you come up with to turn the pto shaft. place a scales on your pull item 6 feet out from the pto and you need 33 pounds pull to make the clutch slip. Otherwise, if this seems too complicated, tighten the springs evenly and take a good educated guess!! Have fun, Steve
