I put a new sickle in my two haybines 489 and 469 every year, I get them at the local TSC, the normally have to order them and I think they are $89 each. They are rivited on and I normally dont break but one or two sections in a year so it is not too hard to deal with. I like having a new sickle at the start of every season and it is normally shot by the end of the year.

Good luck

Kelly,
If the sickle back is in good shape just rebuild the one you have, use the sickle bolts instead of the rivits and you will be glad you did. I've rebuilt mine so many times I think I could do it in my sleep. It takes awhile to do but it costs about half what a new sickle does. Just as good too!
One thing I did on my 469 haybine, I got sick of pulling the sickle everytime I needed to replace the bushing. I took a 488 sickel head and ground off the top of it to match the same 469 sickle head. These 488 sickle heads have a clamp bolt in them to squeeze the bushing in so you don't have to pull the sickle. It worked pretty slick for me, for anybody else, its your choice!

Are you looking for a good sickle or a good price? When you figure that out you will know where to get your sickle.

Like I said in the earler Responce. I am looking for a good sickle at the best price. Shopping around is not a sin. Only a fool would pay the 1st price he got with out checking 1st.

This winter. I purchased a new TA for my 400. IH dealer had them rebuilt for $1250 with standard ramp and rollers.
I checked and asked around and got mine from Steel Wheel ranch Rebuilt with the better spag type ramp and roller. For only $499.
I used the rest of the savings to rebuild the Tranny on my 400 and put a new clutch in it.

If its all the same to you. I will continue to shop around and ask others where the best deals are before I buy. Its served me well so far.

I hear you at least.... ;)

S h o u p generally does pretty good on hay equip - s h o u p p a r t s . com I believe.

I never have bought NH rake teeth for my 55. There are 3 different colors of teeth on it. I go through about 20 a year - ditch banks are tough on it. Only bad one's I ever got wre from TSC for $.69 - made of soft wire. Runnings, other farm stores have just like OEM for $.99.

Gotta shop around, if only the dealer has a product, wow it gets spendy!

The funny thing about that is that my NH dealer sells rake teeth for only pennies more than Agri-supply and I use the NH..

Kelly,
I have used Sickle Service and Mr Webb is very knowledgable and more than helpful. Best price I have found on sickle parts and he builds what you need like you want it. For less than $160 last year I got a new sickle with connecting head, a spare box of knives, all of the hold downs and wearplates with bolts to convert from rivets to bolts. And that was delivered. JD wanted $150 for a riveted sickle and even more for a bolted one.

My local NH dealer does not. Doesn't even pay to walk in and check any more, will just automatically be double the price of the farm store (similar quality) on the other end of town for all these consumable parts.

Forunately I get the NH newsletter, & can buy some of their specials & deals. Funny how the loacal dealer has to take about double the savings off his _regular_ price.....

Kelly call Arland over at Baribeau in St.Croix falls he'll do really good on a price. He's always treated me well and they always beat other prices in our area.

That sounds about right. Remember, you want to keep the local implement dealer in business so they'll be there when you really need them.

I agree with keeping the dealer in business. But my 1st priority is keeping me in business.
Padding some one elses spread sheet when I can get the same product cheaper some where else is not good money management.
Besides I am cheap.
Any way I did make a run to Timmer Implement a NH dealer.
Dropped $220 on parts with them. Timmer has always been fair with me. He had the bar for $90 so he made another $130 by me coming in.
The other NH dealer who had the same bar for $20 more can eat the bar.

Remember also that buying a new knife is like buying 1/2 a pair of scissors, if the guards are worn even a new knife won't cut well, and will accelerate the wear on the bushing.
