NI tine wheel rake

I'm needing a rake and my dealer is trying to sell me a 5 tinewheel NI rake. I've never used one of those rakes with the tinewheels that are vertical. Are they any different to use than my old 5 bar side delivery?

Larry; If your are talking about the model that has little coil tine teeth with like wood that encloses the wheel,I would stay clear of them been there done that they are alright for first cut but from then on they leave to much. Get the wheel rake like a vicon (old name) that has the long metal teeth. You will find one pic on this site www.ricksale.com to help you out okay. Look under used equipment section. You will also see pic of a JD unit like you are talking about now that has little teeth. It is for sale now because of same problem. The Vicon in pic is for sale now also owner bought new one. This unit needs some new teeth otherwise its good working unit. This is not intended to be sale pitch just trying to let you see the difference between the wheel rakes. Yes, the wheel rakes with the long curved sweeping teeth that hold all the way to the hub are pretty good. The wheel rakes with regular-type teeth bolted around the outside don't do so well.

A wheel rake does not corner well, work great on long straights.

Wheel & bar are slightly different, each has pluses & minuses. The bar rake is probably better, but on a cost vs performance, depends on what you wish to do.

They are a little different, but you can go even faster if your fields allow. They clean your feilds better too. Isn't anything I'd worry about.
