Just over 6"s of rain for the month of May with highs only in the high 50's and 60's. Now 70's but more storms on the way. Next week high 80;s possible 90's with high dew points. Has any one gotten lucky and actually cut anything in the upper mid-west. Grass over knee high already but ground just too wet too cut.

Wish we had some of that rain here in colorado, really dry and hot, upper ninties. Guys are putting up alfalfa now, baling at night but i think they are still pulverising it, mostly one ton squares. saw the neighbor out night before last at 10:00 pm, dust flying everywhere, just too hot and too dry. they have to get it up so they can irrigate, or lose 2nd cutting.

Just finished my alfalfa yesterday. Wet month. Mowed a week ago with rain in the forcast and it was at least 2 weeks overdo. Couldn't wait any longer, alot of it was gettin lodged. I can't say enough about my Kuhn rotary rake/tedder combo. I tedded the next afternoon after it had rained and raked Fri. It worked great. I am ready to trade my Deere rake in.

Right now, I wish I had bought that farm in NW Wisc.. I put 22 acres oats/alfalfa in last week of march. Got 1/2" of rain in the next 7 weeks! Just enough to open some seeds, not enough to germinate. Then got 8" in may drown out 1/4 crop. Left 1 1/2 acres open for neighbor kids to ride on. Guess that wasn't enough.
Last week, neighbor down the road decided that since their kids were riding property last year, they should this year too. So they(the parents) ran down another 2 acres. Weather's bad, neighbors suck!!!! Larry NE IL

Kinda lucking out here in Central MN. Hay is not high enough yet. Although I missed planting 6 acres of alfalfa. Got rained out of the field 3 weeks ago wile disking and have not been back yet.
If we get a dry spell maybe we can get going by 3rd week of june.
As for my 6 acres. When I do get it in maybe I at least will get a crop of oats hay from it and hay next year.

Just baled 2.5 round bales today. A little bit wet, but the cows will be getting it this week, I'll give the too-wet pastures a couple day rest. Just wanted to open up a field & make room for the bale storage.

One alfalfa field didn't pay to mow, the other one looks almost average. Some ditch hay is about average, some barely covers a shoe. With the cool & very dry spring followed by the flood, you can really see the areas that stressed for one reason or another.

The weatherman just got done saying what a wonderful Sunday we will have - rain every other day sucks for us hay people, but he was all excited about 1 day.

I hear you. We had 15" in May. Over 5" in June so far. All I've put up is wrapped hay. It doesnt ship well so there goes..... ..... I'm normally cutting 2nd cut alfalfa now and still got 1st cut standing. Rolled 88 rolls of silage day before yesterday and got stuck twice in the field, mud sucks.

Maybe you might want to look into round baling and wrapping you hay for silage. You will have almost twice the food value in haylage that dry hay will have.

lots of alfalfa has been put up here. but it all has had some rain on it. Sothe price premioms are gone. Will just have to wait for 2nd cutting now
