when I get my sprayer hooked up and ready, I usually do a couple jobs. I'll spray 2-4-D in some pasture for weed control then do a area with roundup. some times I'll mix a batch roundup on top of 15-20 gal. of left over mixed 2-4-D, is there any harm to doing this?

I dont see any problem with using Roundup in an uncleaned 2,4-D sprayer. If the 2,4-D does do anything it will just casue a oo rapid burn down of some bradleaf plants as the other folks said. While I dont mix right in the leftover I do try to time my sprays where I only have to clean the sprayer 2x per season. I'll spray 2,4-D in Feb on grasss hay fields, then use Roundup to kill any perennial sods, then Gramoxone for burndown after wheat, then clean, then Poast for johnsongrass control in alfalfa then Roundup again for any summer burndown of perennial plants. Sometimes have to tank mix 2,4-D with Roundup to kill out old alfalfa stands.

If I recall correctly one time Monsanto had a product out called Landmaster. It was a mix of 2-4-D and Roundup.

On the Ag PHD TV show they said it is not good to mix them . The 24D takes the power away from the roundup . Not my opinion but there`s .

None whatsoever. We recommend tank mixing the two
in situations where we have deep rooted or viney broadleaf weeds. The two products work well together. We have also experenced resistance to Round-up with marestail and the 2-4-D helps there.

I'm a CCA like jc and most of the information here is pretty acurate. Remember that when mixing 2,4D and Roundup the rates are the key. The tank mix will not require as much 2,4d per acre as using it straight. my suggestion would be 1 pint per acre. Some labeled applications for 2,4D call for 2-3 QUARTS per acre and this would be an entirely INAPROPRIATE use in the tank mix. Another caveat is that these suggestions are mainly for NON-CROP use. READ THE LABEL...Please.

Hey Joe,24d kills the weeds fast meaning you get quick burndown.Round-up will kill most anything with time.It is sprayed on the leaves and goes to the root to kill the plant there.24d mixed with round-up is probly a waste of round-up,as the 24d would kill grass or weed before round-up got to the roots.I'm no expert just my thought.Have a good day,Billy.

Round up does not work well on onions. 2-4-d kills onions pretty well. Also if you are spraying in the spring 2-4-d works well because it acts by making the plant out grow itself essentially. The two together work well, and 2-4-d is cheap but you have to watch where you spray it.

You were doing real good until you said,

"as the 24d would kill grass "

Roundup kills _most_ green plants. 24d kills only broadleaves, not grasses (unless you get to illegal rates...).

As a farmer, I have to take courses & pass tests to continue to use some of these chemicals. It is law that one must follow the label on the product container. Neighbors do get pulled over in their fields & fined for spraying on a too windy day, or not having proper labels & the chemical instruction book.

I would suggest thumbing through the booklet that comes with the chemical, & at least be some familiar with it.

Roundup & 24d happen to work together pretty well, but you could make a mix that negates both of your chemicals, and that wastes time & money, as well as posibley killing off the plants you wanted to keep, and even a small chance of getting a fine.

Not a sermon, just a little self-serving advise. ;) The more problems people create by haphazardly mixing & handling chemicals, the more restrictive & more costly these things become to me. :)

I believe the county patrol, they bought wind meters for their patrol cars, stop beside a few fellows when spraying on a windy day, you best have a label along if it's over 15-20 mph, lots of chemicals say no go at that windspeed. Tho a calm temperature investion is actually worse for vapor drift.....

The only time to use Round-Up on coastal is in the dormant stage to knock out winter annuals.
