Am gettifng ready to plant corn for the first time and need some help deciphering the seed plate numbering system.

My discs have a # such as "B9-16", or "B53-24".

I know the "second" number is the number of seed slots per disc, but what does the first number represent? Seed Size?

The corn I just bought suggests disc size of "B 25". Then I go to the planter manual and there is a number like H2035B-16.

I am cornfused.

First: Air planters use seed discs. 494A's use plates. Make sure you are reading the chart for plates.
Second: Plastic plates start with "B". Metal plates start with "H". I think the plastic plates came later. They are not in the book, but they are more common on the seed corn bag.
Third: Seed corn and plates must match. Take your corn and plate numbers to your dealer. He can either lend you plates for the corn you bought or exchange for corn that will match your plates. He will most likely be very helpful. Forth: Take your metal plates with when you go back to the dealer. You may need to size them by hand. LOL

Hey Rick I might know an extra set of B25's are,let me do some digging...Tim, if you find that Lustran cross reference, could E-mail me a copy? I'm also interested in finding more of the old steel plate for my 1240, in particular some of the specialty plates. Aaron
