Update on NI sickle parts

I found the guards again tonight, and to my suprise I also found 19 blades that rivet to the bottom of the guards for the sections to cut against. I have 11 guards, ranging from 50% worn on top and missing the bottom blade, to 1 brand new guard still wearing it's original black paint. For the ones missing the blade, $5, Worn but with blade, $6, the one new one, $10. I may have access to another NI mower for parts, has the guards and a sickle in it, looks better than our sickles. Our sickles are complete w/ head, sections are worn. $25. We have one Pitman, looks excellent, stored inside at all times,$25. Email me if interested.

i have a ni 30b sickle mower and want to completly rebuild the cutter bar. On it is single gaurds..and many of them are of different type..So I plan to put new guards, new wear plates, new hold downs and replace all the sections....Q is will any type work as long as they are all the same..or must they be made for that make and model..??ric

I'm not 100%, but I beleive as long as hole spacing & overall important dimensions are right, you can use whatever you want. We have a NI mowditioner, same as a Ford 535, and we have red, blue, green, and orange guards on it. If I'm not mistaken, you may be able to put on newer double guards, just measure the hole spacing etc. the difference in type is simply because of each company's patents. The one new one I have is different shape around the bolt hole, but works on the same machine. You could buy a new sickle bar, mount your old head, and not have to replace all of the sections. It works really nice to have 2 complete sickles. If you break/lose a section, you can put in the other and fix the busted one on a rainy day. Donovan from Wisconsin

I may be able to find one, was at steel scrap yard yesterday and low and behold was another NI sickle mower. It was cut in half between gear box and sickle, I'll see if it's any good.
