Had oat hay this year and missed by about a day having everything perfect. I got what I wanted baled as square bales (about 340 bales) and waiting for the neighbor who does a lot of custom work to come round bale the rest. Got half the square bales in the shed and the neighbor got 4 round bales done when the rain came...hard rain but just about 1/2 inch. What do I do with the square bales in the field and the unbaled hay in the field? Should have several days here of warm sunshine going into the weekend. For what its worth, most of the square bales in the field are on edge.

We used to stand square bales on end, two together - A frame style. Lets the air flow around them a bit better. Leave them in the field to dry, just be sure they are completely dry before storage, so they don't mold or heat.

Happens to us all at one time or another. Last time I got squares wet on the ground (on edge) I left them until they had dried except on the bottom. then I turned 1/4 turn and let dry another day, put in the barn.

As for the windrows, do what Hay Dr says, tedder out, (maybe tedder again) then rake and bale.

HA!!! One time or another. Try every time I cut hay last year. I did not get one bale that didnt get some rain. I really learned how to ted with a NH55 hay rake.
If that weather man does me the same this year I may have to get angry. I may even send some hate mail. :-)

I don't think the square bales are hurt much if any, but leave them out for a few days. Tedder the unbaled hay out of the windrows and round bale the rest of it when ready.
