After seeing one operate today, I'm getting very interested in buying a flail mower. Anyone with any info one brands? The one I saw was a Mott brand. I know about the plus's and minus's of them. What I need to know is who makes a good one? What do I stay away from? I'm thinking 6' or 7'. It'll go on a 60 HP tractor. John

Talked to you about my 3930 New Holland if it would pull my 13' JD disk. Anyway, I just got a 7' Ford flail at an auction for $500 with new finish blades. Many people keep telling me Motts are the best, but I couldn't pass this one up, just a little surface rust. Also looked at a used land pride, it has a nice jack screw to crank the hitch back and forth for the offset. The housing has some fairly heavy gauge metal. But the guy was too high on the price. Most of the filbert (hazel nut) orchards in the northern willamette valley (Oregon) use Dandl flails. I drag a 9' flail behind my JD1070. It's a bit heavy for the tractor, but a bigger tractor is too tall to get under the trees.
