I purchased an 850 New Holland hay roller last year. I baled about 40 bales and a floor chain broke. I fixed it several times last season with link repair kits. Finally I just bought a new floor chain at the end of the season. This year I rolled about less than 50 rolls and the new chain broke. It is always the same one. I have checked the sprockets that it runs on and they appear no different than the others. Is there something I need to look for that I'm missing? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks alot.
Devin

A couple of ideas.

1. Did you replace the track that the chain runs in along with the chain, usually the tracks wear out before the chain.

2. Just saying the 'chain borke' is not enough information. Where did it break, (on the repair link, on a roller, on a side plate, repair link pull out, cotter pin failed, etc) each type of failure will have a unique cause. Also look for wear patterns, side plates, roller flat spots, etc.

Just guessing here but if the track is good, the cain is running true and properly adjusted then I'd question the pin in the repair link. Using the wrong kind or grade of 'J' pin will cause rapid wear and failure at the repair link. Also not brading the pin correctly will allow it to catch on things and pull out.

Lastly, check the back guides, if they are set too close and the chain has some side play (esp caused by loose shims on the drive sprokets) then the guides can grab the pins.
