I am looking at brush hogs for my Farmall super C. Either a 4 or 5 foot model. Who makes a good one? Is the King Kutter any good? What about Howse? Thanks

Thanks everyone for the input--looks like the KK is out! I was going to buy that one and now I won't. This is a great forum! Only as great as the people!

All depends on what you're cutting. You can get by with lite/med duty KK for mowing, but brush will rattle them to pieces. I moved up to Servis Cyclone. A real brute, but not sure it's even offered under 6'.

I have run a 6' light duty Howse for about 4 yrs. Mostly pasture mowing, but also a fair amount of brush hogging as I reclaim overgrown areas around my creek. It has worked great for me. I don't abuse it, but have cut some pretty heavy brush and have often hit substantial deadfall and other things hidden in the grass that have washed out of the creek. Would be hard to beat for the price.

I've never used the king cutter brush hog, but I do have a king cutter 8' back blade. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone who is going to be doing actual work! I broke by back blade plowing snow this winter, only welded in two spots, one weld didn't even have penetration....

I'd recommend finding a good woods brush hog, are you looking 3pt or drag?

I've used and owned a few rotary cutters over the years. Personally i wouldn't own a KK, to poorly made, and doesn't cut all that well. The Bush Hog cutter i bought new, turned to junk fairly fast, so i replaced it with a Woods.

Like yours, mine just keeps on cutting, and i'll admit it, i abust the heck out of it!!! Actually, i have 2 Woods, and both have been great!!!

Today, it looks to me like the Woods "Brush Bull" is the cutter to buy in this size!! Yeaaa, it will cost you more, but i don't like junk!!

Del, I have owned a Brush Hog (6' 3 pt) and presently own a King Cutter (5' Trail type) and a Howse (5' 3 pt). The King cutter with trailing wheels plugs up often from clippings discharging at them. The wheel mounts needed reinforcement with a welder to repair cracks. The bottom grease seal needed to be replaced once. I am not an abusive operator of machinery, but this cutter has been a handful to maintain. My Brush Hog needed reinforcement at the trailing wheel, but otherwise gave me no problems. My Howse has not given me any trouble yet. I just used it for about 90 minutes so far. Your "C" will have all it can handle with a 5' unless you are just mowing mouse hair.

hehe I try not to abuse my equipment any but I've gotta stand up for the super c. When I first got started I bought a 4' 3pt mount brush hog, can't tell you the name it's old and has been repainted many many times. Anyhow it was only $50 and has lasted me many years. Back to the point though... I rigged it up to fit my sc and had to drop it into 1st a few times but I've cut grass as high as tractor frame. Made the ole girl work a bit, but she chomped it down :)
