I am looking for advice on obtaining an older NH or JD flail green chopper. What are some good models to look at? Things to watch out for? I am saying 1985 or older.
Have available to power it 80 and 60 hp tractors.
What is one worth? EC IN. Low dairy farm numbers in the county. Thanks.

I would look at the Gehl units too... good machines. Alot of guys in NE Ohio had brady (bradley?) but I know nothing about them.

I use a NH cropchopper 36 ,,I believe its a 36 anyway,,, got it cheap,, may sell it next season or at the end of this one,, I liek it cause i can use it with my Farmall H,,,,Jim

Jim, Here in west central Wisconsin flail choppers sell for $400-$600 at auctions. I have a NH 56 that works great. The newer ones have larger tires for better flotation in soft soil.

Dairy isn't big around here anymore, either. I saw on auction this spring a JD 16A flail chopper, must've been a mid-80s machine. Decent shape, but they left it out in the fields over the summer as they chopped, so it had faded paint with some rust started. Brought $950. New Holland 38 Crop Chopper last year on auction, new knives, also had faded paint and some rust, $1200. AGCO dealer had a Gehl 72 on the lot that was in excellent shape for $1800. Must've sold it, since it wasn't there last Thursday. My bet is that all three have travelled well into Pennsylvania.
