My haybine needs new rolls, my brushhog has a spindle bearing out and my sickle mower is old tech, like me. Around here in SE Pa. the tradition is you have to cut hay with some kind of conditioner. Which is right if cutting alfalfa. I have orchard grass and timothy. I was thinking of getting a disc mower which will replace the above mentioned. I do have a tedder. So, I need reassured that the disc mower/ tedder route will result in timothy/ orchard grass ready to bale 2 days after cutting. Sorry to bring this up again, but its tough to break tradition. Thanks for your help, John

You can put up grass hay with 3 point drum or disc mower and a tedder as any discbine out there. A disc/drum mower has the advantage over any mower with a sicklebar because you can mow in any conditions. If it's wet or a heavy dew you will have problems with a haybine. You can start early in the morning and have the mowing done before you can start mowing with a haybine.

You are going to need something to condition the stems of the orchard grass and the timothy if you want to bale in 2 days. As wet as it has been this year,and the amount of sap in the stems,even with a discbine and tedder,2 days is going to be a stretch. With your set up I would leave at least a 3-4 day window if the hay is heavy.
