JD 39 MOWER

I tryed to mow hay today with a JD 39 sicklebar mower and it kept plugging up. I'm new at this any one with any ideas? The grass was damp is this a problem? Thank you

I have not had experience with a #39 but have worked with other sickle bar mowers. Yes the damp grass will plug and make it tough to cut. Where is it plugging? Short grass is tough to mow especially if damp. I use a special section on the outer end that is like a section and a half to help keep outer end from plugging. Other considerations are adjustment, lead, register and clearence between ledger plates and sections. Also make sure sickle is sharp and ledger plates are in good shape. I believe th #39 is belt drive so think that would be a consideration to make sure belt is tight and not slipping. Wet gras does not slide off the bar easily if that is the problem.
