A Brillion seeder is an excellent machine, but no better than pulling a cast iron or rubber packer behind your grain drill. Purpose is the same- packs the ground, pushes down the rocks, makes a good seedbed for the grass seed and alfalfa. If you got a good alfalfa stand with 15 lbs per acre before- you can seed 10-12 lbs with a packer for the same stand. You don't need a smooth field- the packer makes the field smooth. Two secondary tillage passes with a disc or field cultivator, and seed with a Brillion or drill with packer=great seed bed. Especially good on the lighter soils north of the TC. Only drawback with a packer is on heavier clay soils, might cause some crusting, or on rolling ground, might wash the seed into the lows. Typical year tho- good idea to use the packer or Brillion.

I would like to know how to remove the bar to take the brushes out of the back seed bin. I have a 12 foot brillion seeder the bar is split in the middle and I have been able to get the one bar out. The other bar on the right looking at the seeder face on has not been so easy to remove. Do I have to remove all the bearings or is there a simplier way.

The brillion works perfect for hay seeding. I've used one on all my fields. Just make sure that your fields are smooth. Joe at Petersons Mill rents one (10') for I think around $8 an acre. Also let me know if you get up some good alfalfa mixed hay, a few of my customers buy it and I don't put anything except grass up.

Best way to plant alfalfa leave ground alittle rough and it will do a good job. The ground will be as level as the floor. Talk to the people you will rent it from for more info.
