I recently acquired a New Holland 460 haybine. The rollers on the drive side are more than an inch apart and they are tight together on the other side. It seems the top rubber roller is sitting crooked. It appears that the rollers are kept under tension with cables and a spring running across the bottom. All the cables are attached and under spring tension.

Vince, I have a 460 also. There are 2 cables, one for each side, be sure both are under tension. If that's true, the only other reason I can think of would be a shot bearing or broken mount on that side. Can you show a picture?

Looking the thing over I thought there was only one long cable that went to both sides. Am I wrong? Maybe the cable on the drive side has a problem. How do I tention the cable.

You may be right about the one cable. I'll have to take another look at mine. To adjust, there's a crank on the outboard side. You remove a hairpin, then slide the crank out until you get enough clearance to tighten (clockwise). Maybe one side is frozen and only the other one has come loose.

I am going to take another look at it this weekend. I am going to take the pressure off (with the crank) and see if the side that is not touching drops down.

I just found another NH460in a barn. It is in good working order except for a broken cable end and a lot of rust. The cutter bar and rollers are good and the shoes are good. I am trying to work a deal.
