JD 14T bale removal

I just bought a JD 14T baler. Tested it with some hay bales I have and it worked fine. There is now a bale left in the squeeze section and one in front of that in the bale chamber, both wrapped with twine.Q-Is there a simple way to remove them? Do I cut the strings and hack it out or is there a trick to getting em out in one piece?

I have a 24T, same thing basically as a 14T.

When you get the about the last bale and a half in the field, loosen the tensioners all the way up so the upper and lower bar are loose on the bale. Finish baling the field. Trip the knotter so you have a "finished" bale. The last bale or so in the chamber will slide right out with out much effort.

Only caution you need to be aware of, don't let the knotters "trip" as you pull the last bales out. When the trip arm gets almost high enough to "trip", just push it back down and pull the bale through.

i always put up pretty dry hay and kept baler under roof so i never worried about it. i dont know of anyone aound here [central ind. ] that does. you could and i did this at first ,keep 2-3 bales of straw around and at the end of baling feed those through the baler so i would have it in the chamber. always turn yourtensioners the same number of turns too1 it makes it easier to remmber for putting the baler in or out of storage.

My dad worked at a JD dealer for years and if he always wanted the baler cleared of hay after baling. He would trip the knotters to tie whatever was in the chamber and then loosen the tensioners. If we couldn't pull the bales out by hand he would take a block of wood and carefully position it between the plunger and the bales so as not to break anything and turn the flywheel by hand to push the bales out. I've done this on a 14T and a 24T. Good luck with the 14T.

Rick - Jim has it right. I have a 224T (probably worth it's weight in gold in Montana!) and I release the tension cranks and do my best to wrestle it out. Don't leave it in as it will rot and do nothing for the condition of your baler. I still have trouble getting these loose sometimes as I swear the bale expands when the tension is let up, but I always get them out. With the price of hay around here I hate to waste it, so I usually pull up next to the feed rack and toss it over the fence to the stock.

you should be able to loosen the things that tighten down the bale chute (dont know the exact name),,and then slide them out,,works on my 24T,,,

The "things" are called Tensioners. Some have a hydraulic cylinder (optional) that replaces the hand cranks. The problem I have with mine is that the inside of the bale chute rusts due to age and outside storage and makes it more difficult to pull out the bales. Also, if you leave the bales in the chute and it gets rained on, the bales with absorb the moisture and cause rusting. I use a couple of bale hooks that let me pull quite hard and not break the twine/knot(s). HTH.
