I have a steel wheel John Deer grain drill. On the back is painted "1607 model ff" . Is that an actual model number or should I keep looking? I am in need of some parts and need to know what it is. Thanks in advance.

It is a model FF drill. Predecessor to the FB series. I'm not sure what the 1607 means. Could be a lot number. How many openers do you have? If you've got 16 on 7" spacings, numbers could indicate that.

I have a wood wheeled McCormick Deering with an 11-7 on the end and it is 11 rows with 7 inch spacings.

Farmers usually talk about a drill of a given width- like 10, 12, 14 foot. But since they come with different opener spacings, the mfr uses the xx-x code, indicating number of openers, and their spacing. I've always had 6", but they also make 7", and I think 9".
