I was just given an old John Deere 247/246 two row planter. My first experience with this type of implement. I have been able to locate most of the parts needed at the local JD dealer, Sweissguth Bros, of Dutzow, MO. However they can not help me with the fertilizer bins. Is there an alternative fix for what I expect is a common problem? Generic plastic glue on something? I am new to this forum. Thank you.

I 've seen fiberglass used to patch the holes that form on the bottom. There are a lot of JD planters out there, you may just call a bone yard and see if you can find better ones.

may I take it form everyones' silence that the only reasonable fix for the fertilizer bins is brazing the old ones back together?

Maybe take them to a sheetmetal shop, and see what they could fab up. My 246/247 is completely missing the fertilizer boxes...

I bought new John Deere fertilzer bins just three years ago at a John Deere Dealership outside of Blairsville, Pa. I think the name was Maple Mountain.
