I noticed the blades on the sickle bar are bolted instead of rivited. Is this the new way of attaching the blades? Is there anyplace to get new guards and blades other then a New Holland dealer or should I just stick with them? Thanks, John

John,

I'll just add that it is also possible to purchase a complete knife section (knife bar with new sections already installed) for about $100 through many farm supply catalogs. It's nice to have a spare, so you can replace sections in your down time.

Michael

PS: Do I recall you live near Gettysburg? I live a bit north of there, near Heidlersburg.

You can get guards for that mower at most any good farm supply house. TSC has 'em, as well as a number of other places. The "bolt-on sections" aren't new. They've been around for a while. It makes the job of changing knives MUCH easier. Bolt kits are available just about anywhere also. I'm done riveting sections. I did a "rivet job" for a nieghbor a couple months ago. That's the last one in my lifetime! Bolts are the way to go. Knives, or sections are available at places like Tractor Supply Co. or any good farm store also. They're getting less common though. Disc mowers are the way of the future. John
