I need to buy a haybine looking at a nh 488 and a jd 1209 both in similar condition same price. Does one mow better than the other, Any help would be great. Thanks

I would have to agree with the others. JD never made a haybine that was any good years ago. I assume their current models would be decent. that era. We used to have a 1209 and had a lot of trouble with it. They also had these little 12" flotation tires on them. I remember one time we blew out as tire and it cost $95.00 for a replacement tire since 12" is a weird size. New Holland have regular 15" implement tires on most.

I own a 1209, never ran a 488.

I would by the 488 99% of the time given that choice. For what that's worth.

Hands down, no doubt, 488. Newer, better, in fact it is still a current production model.
