NI 323 Picker Questions

I'm starting to look for a one-row picker to pick some cob corn, and thinking that the NI 323 would be a good picker to find. Would any 323's have a sheller unit to look out for, or did they all leave it on the cob?

What's your general opinion of this model? Thanks for the info.

Shellers were only available on the 2 and 3-row Superpickers. 323 is a solid, no-nonsense machine. It will handle 200 bushel corn. Try to find one with the extra beater installed over the snapper elevator. It's a big help in corn that brings a lot of stalk into the machine with the ears. Check out the snouts on the snapper. These take a beating, and won't float right if they've been bent up. Also, for heavy corn, you'll want a cover on the wagon elevator so the ears don't tumble out. Mine just has a board bolted in there, not hard to add if the picker doesn't have it. If the rubber star wheels over the husking bed are damaged or missing, that devalues the picker somewhat, as they are replaceable, but expensive. Also might consider a 310 picker, which is basically the same as a 323, but is the earlier model with belting flap wheels over the bed instead of star wheels. Won't move the corn as fast, but cheaper to fix.

Thanks for the info. I'll look for the 310 as well...probably run an ad in the local area to see what I can scare up. Always good to look for things out of season!

watch ebaY as well. lots of great deals on them in last year. patience is a virtue! and sooner or later one will be reasonable and close to home.of course if you are like me , you will have just bought one right before it! lol
