I am going to an auction tomorrow where a 7' NH 450 sickle bar is being sold. Is there anything I need to look-out for, when were these machines made and what would a going price be for one in average condition?

Thanks in advance,
Bill

gave 200 for mine a few years ago and spent about 200 getting it ready to mow. spent another 100 for a hydraulic cylinder to replace the float sysytem on it when i traded for a new tractor. would not even consider 1000 forit now. just use it to mow ditch banks, around the ponds, etc.

Yeah. Look for the nearest exit. I hate my cycle bar and have detatched it from my tractor for the last time. It is going to the sale barn. (Ford 515). I do hay, grass and sorghum. I have a mower conditioner for sorghum and wanted to use the sickle for the grass. It just makes a mess and I am tired of it. I even spent $1200 and a ton of work buying a teddy to fluff up the mess it makes. Course, If I had a nice flat place with rectangular fields, then it MIGHT work. But I don't.

So I use my rotary cutter for grass haying. It's fast, very controllable and easily managed, doesn't run into fences because I can't gauge didstance when coming around and can be removed when finished.

Once you attach a 3 pt sickle mower to a tractor, you don't want to take it off. HEAPS of trouble.

My 2c....here comes the flak from the experts....duck.

lol txblu you did'nt clip a t-post did you? That's always a good learning experience with a sicklebar. I had to learn turn radius the hardway too. 8^)

In answer to the question I gave $200 for a 68 Hayliner wire tie in good shape. The feller thru in a 450 NH. He did'nt like the 450 but I have not had one ounce of trouble after I adjusted it.
