NH S68 Baler knife sharpening

What is the best way to get access to the knives on the NH S68 baler to sharpen them? I am referring to the knives on the plunger that cut the hay up. Do you only sharpen the knife on the plunger or do you also sharpen the fixed knife the plunger knife cuts against? Do you crawl in through the front hay pickup area or is there an access plate you can remove for better access? Can you do the knives in place or better to remove them? I hope you can understand my babble here, lol.

Jerry, I understood everything you are asking. I have sharpened more 68,69 knives over the years than I care to remember. I personally never tried to sharpen the plunger knife while still in the baler. When working at a dealership, the customer expects a reasonably decent job. I used to lay in the feeder area and attempt to remove the 3 countersunk set screw style bolts that fasten the knife, only to get mad and physicly sore. So, since I have gotten older, I will only do this job one way: Pull the plunger out the thru the bale chamber and then remove the knife and sharpen it the way it should be sharpened. As far as the stationary knife, New Holland always said we did not have to sharpen it, but I disagree. Go ahead and remove it and put a nice square edge on it. The bales will look nicer and the baler will work so much easier. Steve
