OK, I got a few pieces of railroad iron; how to best configure them into a drag-bar? I am a novice at this and I tip and turn the two pieces I have and have yet to come up with a really good idea of the best way to accomplish this.
Anybody ever done this?

I would like to teather them close to the tractor to have control (in case I get to much material in front of the bar), also to have the ability to raise teh leading edge slightly if needed.

Of all of the possible configuration of the iron to the ground; which would be best?

Real RR track. I tried welding, but it doesn't really like that too well. I did get a few loops attached and tried chains, but it would really be slick if I could make a 'poor man's' rear blade. Attached to the 3pt in some fashion.
BTW, what it the typical width for implements on a cat 1 3pt? (at teh lift arms).

Thanks in advance! :)

third party image

You could use a universal drawbar (shown) with 2 clevises (one at each end) to connect to the RR iron with some short sections of chain. This way, the RR iron could move a little but you could still lift it; you shouldn't need a mast and top-link either.

In looking over this further, I think this is a very do-able idea! Where can i get teh universal drawbar? Or can I manufacture one?

I have a cat 1 3pt conversion kit already (though it hasn't been used yet!). Would also fashioin a counter-balance box to fit on htis as well.

Thanks,
jake

Any farm store or implement dealer should have a drawbar...post a photo of what you come up with if you can.

Thanks MJ, I will attempt to post a photo, when I dream up this contraption. :)

I am thinking of adding two fixed points (with holes for teh 3pt) on the face or the iron that I can affix to the connections on the lift bars. Then a small mast to attach to the junction of the top link (I am considering one of the reciever hitch 3pt adapters) of the hitch adapter. The I can have control of the angle as well as the down-up play of the iron (I know that made NO sense).

When I want to simply 'drag' I will attatch short chains to the fixed eyes I have attached to the face of the iron and connect those to the lift arms.

Gosh I hope that makes sense. Tryig to put this in words is rather tough! :)

Thoughts?
