JD BWA disk vs AC 2300 disk

Still looking for a 12'wheel disk in Central Wisconsin. These two are pretty heavy duty models. AC 2300 has 20" blades and are newer (about 200 acres on them). BWA looks like it has been very well taken care of with 18" blades that are on average 17". AC comes with a cylinder and BWA has new implement tires and bearings. Both are the same price. I have not found any nice IH wheel disks around recently. I hear good things about them, however all I have seen is some model 37 disks that were a bit rough. Is condition the main thing on disks or is brand an important factor. Can my JD 3020 handle both of these in flat sand country?

Mark, If you can find a good 500 IH tandem with 22 in disk it will be a little more than a 3020 will want to handle with the wheels off the ground. We pick up one here in Central Texas for $3200.
We are pulling it with a IH 966 and a JD 4230, @ spindel deep in medium clay it will load back my 966 some, but most of the time it doesn't know its back there.
The condition of a disk has a lot to do with the worth of it. Is it sprung? Are the disk worn down to nothing. Has it been weilded on all over?
Does it overall apperieance look like it had been "rode hard and put up wet" more times than not!

Mark- I bought a BWA 13'10" disk back in january for 300 dollars and I have been pulling it with my 730 lp. I don't have a problem,my tractor pulls it just fine in 3rd. The disk manual say's not to pull it over 5 mph. I really like it !-mike

Had two 2300s way back when they were "new"; good disks, but they were as hard on gang bearings as any disks we ever owned; from reading the posts on here for the last few years, there's a lot of difference in what folks in different parts of the country consider proper match-ups between tractors and various implements..... in our part of the world, it took a 4020 to pull a 12 ft 2300. Had one BW....a 13 or 14 ft as I recall; mainly pulled it behind a 1066. These were all used for primary tillage and had new/excellent condition blades..... under the "right" conditions, I would think your 3020 would pull either....though not with wheels up and loose soil.

I have heard that the AC 2300 is a very good disc. I have used 2 older model AC discs and I liked both. JD sold a lot of discs. They are not bad, but I never cared for them. Soil conditions vary alot, but I think 12' would be a big load on a 3020. Your 3020 will need to be weighted to pull it. I question if you can pull it fast enough. You might try the JD board to see what size discs guys pull with 3020s.
