i can't get the pto shaft to extend to the tractor. i've been spraying it with wd40 for a week now and beating and prying on it about as long. any ideas? do i just take it apart at the joint and get a new shaft?

is one of the ends (in middle of joint) hollow? if so you may be able to drive with a rod (use brass if you can). try PB Blaster instead of WD40.. I've had better luck with PB>.. give it a good coat and let is soak a day or so. IF it has the safty sheilds You may have to disconnect that from the shaft and slide them one way or the other to get a better shot at the shaft with the oil. You're talking $250+ for new shaft.

i got it figured out. turns out the shaft that normaly slids doesn't. the main shaft from the gear box does. the bracket that the hanger bearing and hydralic hose hang on slides with the main shaft, kind of like a big lever. quite a clever design i might say. it's different, never seen anything like it! thanks for the input though!
