Dumb newbie question...

Are all 3 point implements made to the same standard? For example would a 3 point brush hog fit a Ford 8N and Allis-Chalmers D15, or are spacings different, requiring a brush hog made for each tractor?

Thanks!!

Scott

For all three-point specs, go to the website of the American Society of Agricultural Engineers. www.asae.org There are Categories 1, 2, 3, and since the advent of smaller tractors, a category 0.

My Allis D10-III is Cat I 3pt hitch, recently I bought a plow when I went to hook it up I was disappopinted to find the hitch beam was Cat II with 1-1/8" dia ends. It is not practical to change the diam of the ends on the forged hitch beam so that leave me wondering if I can buy a 32" lift arm with Cat I mounting on one end and both Cat I and Cat II on the other end. Or, does some one make a lift arm with a socketed end so that one could pop in an adapter with the correct size? Thanks

Thanks to all for the help with my 3 point questions. I have a lot to learn, and I appreciate all of you for "taking me under your wing" and helping me out! Now to look for that elusive tractor! (to be used for mowing, hence my 3 point question)...

"The right tractor" is at least one of each. It's always better to have duplicates of all.

go to tractor talk and read thru the archives the "proper tractor" has been argued many times on here and there is a lot of bad, good and junk info. read it keep an open mind and sometime you will relize the tractor that is right for you and not somebody else. then look for that tractor
Good luck

Scott, "Most" 3PT equiptment at places like TSC will fit your D15 or 8N. In this part of the country the larger cat. 3PT equiptment were somewhat rare. Most 85+ HP tractors used either quick hitch or hydraulic lifted equiptment, at least thats what I see here in NW MO. When in doubt, just ask the person whom you're buying equiptment from.

In general, all tractors between 15-65 hp are catagory 1 3pt hitch and are built with the same 3pt specs. Subcompact tractors may be different, add-on 3pt hitches might be different but will claim to be cat 1 - sort of, and larger tractors will be cat 2 or 3 for size.

The specs on these different standards are on this site in the menu list to the lower right I believe.

Now many implement manufaturers have slightly different spacing on their implements. They all claim cat 1, and they will work with cat 1. But, they are not all exactly the same. This is important if you are considering a quick-hitch....

Sorry for all that build-up, what is important for your question: Most implements you run across will be cat 1 3pt hitch, and will fit most all tractors of small/mid size. It is a standard. Bigger tractors or bigger equipment will be cat 2 hitch.

Paul, you forgot one thing. You are bound to run into at some time in your travels a JI Case implement that looks like it's Cat. 1 3-pt. Upon closer inspection (usually after you buy it), you will find it is JI Case's proprietary Eagle Hitch, which looks like, but isn't quite the same as Cat. 1 . . . .

Ah yes, the Eagle! I've seen it on a tractor, but have yet to run into an implement..... Case was not too popular locally until the big merger.

Tractors and implements are designated by category,(category 0,1,& 2). You have to match by category.

Just one more thing that you will need to be alert about.Top link turnbuckles come in at least two or three lengths. If you get the wrong length youre going to do some head scratching.
