Gear Box on Post Hole Digger is Leaking

I bought a post hole digger last year at auction (brand and age unknown). Everything seemed to work fine last year, but when I hooked it up tonight, all the gear fluid leaked out. How difficult is it to change seals? How do I go about it?

Dug (not mechanically inclined, but love to try the farm thing)

You might consider an option. I use Lubriplate brand #105 grease. It is called "engine rebuilding grease", is white and has a viscosity about halfway between 90W and grease. It's thick enough to stay put but thin enough to get slung around in the gearbox and goo everything up. I use it on all gearboxes that leak including shredders, tractor steering, hay rake and anything else that needs help and seal replacenment is a distant option.
Any automotive parts jobber should have it. txblu

We're borrowing one right now, used it to plant 3-400 pine trees. had it behind our 165 massey, set the depth stop and plugged a hole every 12-17 ft. Worked extremely slick and saved a lot of man hours digging by hand. I don't think it would be too hard to replece the seal, just take the auger(or pto, whichever is leaking) off, and use a slide hammer or a pry bar(be carefull with a prybar) Take the old one in to an automotive store and see if they can't match it up with something.
