I just replaced the left wheel bushings and axle, telescope drive shaft and front gear box seal on my 256. The gear box had no oil in it, considered grease. I removed the rolabars and hub replaced the seal and filled the gear box to brim of the top plug with oil. Have not used it yet and I am curious about this service bulliten replacing oil with grease. I you find it please let me know. Thanks

We use "Corn Head" grease in our rake gearboxes. It doesn't leak and provides high temperature protection.

My seal started leaking on the NH55 rake. I put in grease & forgot about it. Worked for 2 years so far. Mind you I'm not promoting you do this....

Do a search here recently Steve of NH let us in on a service bulletin about replacing the gear oil in our Rolabar gear boxes with 2 tubes of good grease.

Thanks in advance, Larry

I have a copy of this.
" TO :All Dealers. Aug 9 1976
Subject: Rake gear Boxes
In the past we have always used gear oil in rake gear boxes for lubrication.
We are now recomending the use of regular multi-porpose grease gun grease for all new and rebuilt gear boxes. Two cartrages approx 2 pounds of grease will be sufficient to provide adequate lubrication. It is not necesasary to completely fill the gear box.
Assembly and operator instructions were already printed for the coming year, when this change was made, and will be shipped with new rakes. Disregard the manual instructions to add oil to the gear box and use grease instead.
