I have a 10' AC snap coupler disk that I have cut the eyelet off and put on a pivot hitch to hook to my drawbar. The one main problem is that with the adjustment screw adjusted to make hitching to my Farmall practical is when lowering the dick is that the front gangs really dig in leaving the back ones basically rolling on top not doing much. Has anyone here changed a snap coupler hitch to a regular hitch like on a John Deere or other brands. If so tell if you have had any problems with levelness and so on. To me it doesnt look to be a really big deal but I would like to know of any problems before I go and hack this to pieces and end up scraping a good piece of equipment.

JSM/MN It's a wheel disc why do you want to hook this thing up when it up on the wheels? sounds kinda hard to me. If it is setting on the ground the crank does raise the hitch up and down.Must not know much about allis equip.Talking about doing things the hard way!!!

If you put a jackstand on a wheeled disk it holds the hitch at the proper height for hooking to the tractor the next time you use it. It keeps the blades out of the ground. It lets you move it with another tractor or vehicle if the need arises. Once the adjusting lever is set for the disk to cut level, you never have to set it again. That is quite an advantage if other people are using the machine. All they need to do is hook and go. Having to reset a machine after hooking to a tractor is a waste of time.

I thank you all for your input and idea's. I have tried every combination of adjustments that I could think of and it ends up creating another problem with either hookup or tillage. I have checked my drawbar heigth before starting this project and it measures 14"'s. The way the disk hitch is made it what the problem is. I realize this was made by Allis for an Allis and it's difficult task to hook to any other tractor and have it work like it should. I bought this on a sale for $14.00 and its a good disk and would like to utilize it to use on my equipment. That is why I would like to change the hitch rather than buy another disk that is in worse shape for several hundred dollars than the $14.00 I paid for and put another $100.00 or more in repairs. I hope you can see my point to my question. As far as cutting it up for scrap, that wont happen. I must have worded something wrong. But like iI said earlier I appreciate your thoughts and suggestions.

after you adjust it so you can hook it to the tractor, run the adjustment back the other way ,such as to lower the front of the hitch of the disc, this will raise the front gangs up, hopefully this helps.

Adjust it to hook it to the tractor, and then run it the other way? There is no way you'll adjust the leveling crank to hook the disk to the tractor. No matter how much you crank, the disk hitch is still on the ground! That's why jackstands were invented. So we did not have to lift those hitches by hand, like we did everything in the old days.

The adjustment controls on tillage machines are meant to be used to adjust the machine so it runs level while in field operating position. The Snap-Coupler drawbar is basically level on the tractor, so it doesn't matter if you are using the eyelet in the SC or hooking to the rear of the drawbar- the height is the same. I think you need to look at your Farmall drawbar height to see where the problem is. Generally a drawbar is about 14-16 inches off the ground.

I'm afraid I can't speak much towards answering your question, other than to use the full range of adjustment with the beaming screw to attain level operation.

I would however like to encourage you to refrain from "hack this to pieces and end up scraping a good piece of equipment.", to use your own phrasing. These snap coupler pieces of equipment are getting harder and harder to find. All of the various forms of disc harrows (3 pt., drawbar, wheel type, snap coupler, etc.) are fairly inexpensive as older models. I'd suggest that if the snap coupler implement does not suit your needs, you'd likely be able to sell it to one of us A C guys, and be able to turn around and buy another that does better fit your needs.

Regardless, good luck with it!

Good Day!

Have you tried adjusting the disk after hooking it up to the tractor? I do not have a snap coupler disk but my dick I adjust the lever so I can hook it up to the tractor and this makes the front dig in so I adjust it the other way unril both front and rear are doing what I want them to. I think that should work on your disc as well.
