NH 70 Thrower questions

Will the NH 70 Thrower fit a NH 270 Baler? I can pick one up for $100 but didn't know if the auxiliary engine drive performs OK. I only put up about 1000 bales a year and thought the thrower would same me some work.

Also, I plan to bring the baler in soon and replace the bearings on the plunger. Is there anything else I should check while it is out?

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Scott Goff

A 70 thrower definately can be mounted on a 270 baler. I've never seen it done, but I have seen 54A thrower mounted, so I know that a 70 will go on. You would not need to change or retrofit very much either. Steve

Steve,

Thanks for the help. I have a couple of more questions. I bought the baler as part of a package and a NH 451 mower was included as well. It is 3ph, but what is the deal with the "U" shaped bracket on the front? It appears to be part of the lift system, but how is it connected to the tractor?

Also, I plan to pull the pickup, plunger and feeder from the 270, as the pickup teeth, plunger bearings and 2 feeder forks and feeder bearings need replacement. Where is a good place to source the parts? I am from the People's Republic of Connecticut, and the dealers here only know list price plus 20 percent!

Is there an aftermarket source or dealer that you would recommend?

Thanks again for your help.

Scott Goff

The model 70 Bale Thrower w/shaft drive is used on the 273, 276, 310, 311, 315, 316, 320 & 326 Square Balers. The model 50 Bale Thrower is used on Model 270 and other balers. I never saw an engine driven 70, and the parts info does not list that drive option. In general, driving throwers with auxiliary engines was a bad idea that didn't last long either individually or in concept. If you try it, remember to offset the chamber side wheel to the rear to rebalance the machine.
