Open vs Closed Throat Round Baler

Next is a place where both belts are close together and there is a square metal roller there. The spring fingers put the hay in here and the belts together with the square metal roller start the (usually attempt) to start the baling process.

The baler works fine except it is hard to start the roll spinning. I bought new belts this year hoping that will solve my problem. I have tried fast crams and slow easy hay entry. The hay I bale is sudan and is cut B4 or in the boot; none of this 10'tall stuff. The curing is such that you can grab a handfull with both hands and wring it. If it pops before or during the 3rd rotation, it is cured.

So, does it appear that I have an open or closed throat baler and whichever I have what is the throat of the other like?
