New Holland Spreader repair and operation

I need to replace the floor of this spreader, model 202. Should I replace the foor with treated lumber or metal?
Also the model 202 has a serial number of 9587. Can anybody tell me its approximate age?
What speed of travel should this spreader be used at? The former owner said at about a brisk walking speed.

I always use untreated WHITE oak lumber (manure spreader/stock trailer/etc.) My last trailer floor last 15 years and still wasnt rotten, just beginning to look weak. I keep my spreader out of the rain and I've never had to redo a floor.

I redid a 101 not long ago with wood. Works good but you need to hit it every now and again with used motor oil to keep the water out and the manure sliding easy. Wish now I had used a sheet plastic material. That's what the new spreaders use it's no maintenance and lasts forever. Some of the farm catalogs sell it.

That plastic looks pretty good. A neighbor gave an old (january 7, 2004) issue of Fastline northern edtion. Martin's Farm Service (717)597-4283 is selling sheet and roll plastic for ag applications. I wonder how hard the manure chain would freeze to it in the winter ??

My friends with the horse stable have a New Idea 3615 with a plastic floor in it. Chain does not stick to it in the winter.
