this is going to be the first year I try to bale big round bales. I have an older closed throat baler. I have read on here about closed throat balers being hard to start bales. my baler does have new belts with tread????[I don't know what its called] on the belts, not the smooth type. give me some tips, do's and don'ts as to windrow size, ground speed, gear and rpm's with a 4000 ford diesel.

Call Billy Lee Carter 423-282-6969
He has taught more people how to bale than anyone else in the world.

Would probably help to know the brand/ model of baler. Widrow size (width) depends on size of baler, so what size bales does it make?

The big problem with the older Gehls is that the roller that starts the hay feeding in is smooth so it doesn't pull the hay in as easy. The newer ones have treads on the rollers but most of the guys with older ones here just ran beads across the roller randomly every 3-4 inches with a welder and found that made a big difference with the feeding.
