Looking to compare the 271 to the old Case I run now. I'd like to upgrade in the future and have been paying attention as what I should get. You fellas have said that the 271 is a baling go getter but I'm wondering what weight and size of bales. My old one puts out max +/-60lb. bales in a 14X18X35" size. Sure seems like I take a long time to get the baling done though. I'd think that 70-80 lb. max bales would pick up the pace pretty good. I'm hoping the plunger capacity will really do it good and pump out more bales with a better ground speed with the same size windrow.
Another thing is that the pickup on the Case is only 48" of useable width. Another foot of pickup would SURE make the driving less hectic. Doing away with the exhaust blowing right behind my ear is the next chore. Started baling with a 9N and needed the self powered baler but the 77 will take over the chore now, with PTO power.
Rambling. Also, compare the 271 to a 346(?) JD. Is the JD wire(no go!).

Our old 271 would bale about 8 bales a minute when rolling along the right sized windrow. 14X18 by however long you want them. Ours was set for 36 in long so we could stack them so they tied themselves. 18x2 =

By the lack of replies, most folks kinda get set up with one baler & don't switch brands too much. ;) If you are coming from an off-brand baler, either a NH or JD set up right should be a real pleasure to work with.

Like I said below, dad bought this baler about the time I was born, still going strong - it misses tying 1 in 500 bales or so plus any twine changes plus if I get into too wet hay. That's after 160-200,000 bales. I wouldn't know much about any different brands. ;)

What weights will that baler adjust to? Not the maximum that will start tearing up things but a comfortable max? Loren
