PTO Question

I replaced the PTO shaft on my 566 JD round baler after the old one went "MISSING" with one that has a 1000 RPM hookup to the tractor end. I want to change only that piece to a 540. John Deere quoted around $350.00 just for that! I was wandering if someone could point me to some places that sell PTO parts. I have seen the weld cut out on other shafts and the 540 insert welded back in place. I just don't know where to look for those parts. Any help will be appreciated!

Thanks in advance; Barney

Why can't you just buy another splined yoke {540 RPM} and replace just that part? Most farm supply stores have a variety of splined yokes {with various U-joint sizes} that are reasonably priced. If you are not familiar with taking a u-joint apart, you might take it to a mechanic and ask them to do it for you {for a nominal fee}. It really isn't that hard to do.

The other option is to buy an adapter that adapts the 540 splines on your PTO shaft to the 1000 RPM spines in the yoke! Either option should cost less than $40.

If he has a Weisler CV like JD uses OEM then the Yoke will be $100+. This is not a simple yoke but a CV yoke.

Dr. Hay is correct. This isn't a common PTO joint like I've been changing since I was 14! I'm going to look again to try to find some kind of marking or numbers so I can identify it with out a doubt. I'm almost sure it's a Weisler, but I want to make sure. Maybe I can cut out the weld holding the 1000 RPM coupling to the yolk, and replace it with a 540 coupling?

Thanks to everyone for responding!

You didn't mention that part - then your price quotes are fair, it costs what it costs. Sorry.

wow... can you accurately weld that with out excessive runout???? you may try some "used" machinery places... the one around here (Stamm's in Wayland, MI) would want almost new $ for a used one, if its a CV style $350 sound cheap..

Yes sir I can, I am a union Millwright, and by the way I belong to the local in Detroit,Mi! I am also a Field Machinist. I'm well aware of the very high prices charged up north. But I'm in Ga where things must be cheaper, because the Farm Auctions are always full of people from up north buying equipment and bragging about the profits they make off people up north!

Thanks for the reply; Barney in Ga.

Ask your local dealer to contact A&I/Edcor and they should have the parts for considerable less money.

Hay Dr., my Dealer has never heard of this company. Would you have a website address for Weisler?

Thanks; Barney
