Has anyone ever plantered green beans with a planter , i would like to find out what plates it might use. Thanks John.

I used to plant Dark Red kidney beans with a 494A planter. Green bean seed is about the same size. You just need to find a set of bean plates for it.

I just use the regular soybean plates. That way when I break off a few with the tine weeder or they get a touch of cultivator blight, there are still enough left. Who is going to pick them / what do you pay to pick greenbeans / how many do you get per person per hour ?

Good green beans are one of those things that everybody likes, but nobody wants to pay for. We can only pick 12 - 15 pounds per hour when it is good picking. Maybe we are just too slow. At $10 per hour (or what ever you would like to get paid)for picking, make sure that you are charging enough. I'm charging $2.50 per pound, and would really like to get $3. I don't know how anyone without a Pixall can sell them for $1/#.

I don't know why you couldn't, we used to plant soybeans with a corn planter. I don't know what number of plate you would need, but if you have access to several different plates, just hunt for one with slots that your greenbean seeds will fit. I would just about bet that one of the plates you have for corn will work on the greenbeans.

While your title asked about a specific planter, your text was general.

I have used Stanhay 840 planters with excellent results. They don't use plates, but rather a punched hole belt and choke system to gently handle seeds from the smallest to large squash seeds.

On the family farm when growing up, dad used an old 1910, 1920 era John Deere lister to plant beans and corn. It was a plate planter. I expect that a lot of the beans were damaged and didn't grow, but when we got plenty of rain they produced a fine crop.
