I read last year's comments about a drum mower versus a disk mower. What are some of the brands available in NC? Do they really cut faster than disk mowers? Are they as maintenance free as the literature says? Cost of drum mowers compared to disk mowers are much lower. What are some of the drawbacks? Do drum mowers evenly distribute the hay after it has been cut for even drying or do you need to tedder to get the hay dry?

drum mowers cut with 2 big disks w/small easily removable, reversable blades. They do Not pick up like sickle mowers, they swing around directly behind you. Front weights on tractor are helpful. The 2 drums cut the way disk cutters do, just a lot bigger. You can cut much faster than 'bine, can cut downed or twisted hay, cut in early morning or when wet, for 1/3 the price.

you taught me well, doc! Seriously, I checked with 3 local machinery dealers & 1 farmer who used them. For six great pics go to ebay & search for item # 3804478004. They call it a disk mower but its really a drum mower.

The CCM T-135 drum mower is the exact same mower as pictured in Ebay # 3804478004 but a NEW one. We also have the T-165 and T-185 drum mowers available. The mower in Ebay # 3804478004 has been ragged out and is likely a pre-1986 mower. These drum mowers are very durable.

it looks like in the pictures that no part of the mower touches the ground when in operation. does this mean that the cutting height is dertermined totally by the 3 pt hitch height? also is the hay discharged in a windrow or is it scattered?

NO the bottom saucers are resting on the ground and are freewheeling. The top drum caries the blades and turns about 3000 RPM.
