Are the 2 bottom plows tsc sells any good. I just bought a jubilee and have about 10 acres to get plowed and disced. What about the dics tcs sells? I will spend a bit more money for a better set of plows and dics, but i can't find any other places to buy one.

Thanks for the help jay

Thanks for the info men. A local auction is having its annual equiptment auction in April. Is there any things i should be aware of when bidding on a 2 bottom plow and set of dics. Got a newbie here, do have any advice you can give me? Thanks again jay

The best advice about auctions is "Know what it's worth to you". If you know a new two-bottom is $400 (I don't know what they actually cost, just making up numbers) decide how high you want to go for a used unit (maybe $300, for example), then DROP OUT OF THE BIDDING if the price gets above your limit. This takes more discipline than you might think. :-) Auctions can be great fun, but can also break the bank if you don't know when to say when. Good luck.

One thing to keep in mind about the TSC plows (and others like them) is that they have shear-bolt protection for the bottoms. If you have rocks in your field, replacing shearbolts may become very trying on your nerves. Around here (New Jersey), you can get a John Deere, IH, or Oliver 2-14" 3-point plow with spring-trip beams for $300-$500.

I would go to a few auctions. You could find a used 2-bottom plow cheaper than at TSC and probably a lot better made. Dearborn plows are relatively common around here and were original equipment for the ford tractors.

I believe that the plows TSC sells are made by Howse. I bought a one-bottom from TSC last year to till the garden and food plots with, and once I climbed up the learning curve and got it set up properly it's worked fine. Coulters and gauge wheels are available for these plows if you want them, for a few $$$ more. I borrowed a light-weight disc, similar to the smaller ones TSC sells, from my neighbor last spring and found it didn't do the job very well. This past winter I picked up an old disc (I think it's a Deere) that's much heavier and worked better when I ran it over the garden a couple weeks ago. The upshot of this is that the TSC plows are fine, but as other people have said you can get older used plows fairly cheaply at auctions or equipment sales. I suggest not buying the low-end, lightweight discs - instead, go for a heavier disc. Again, your best bet might be a used unit - might be able to find something on your local ag equipment dealer's "used" pile, or at an auction. My used disc cost me about 1/2 of what I would have paid for a new one at TSC. Good luck.

Jay, Were are you at? If you're anywhere near Louisville, Ky/ Southern Indiana, I can fix you right up! I have a fair selection of good 2 and 3 bottom plows (In 12"-14"-16" bottoms) E-mail me at [email protected] If you're interested. I bought a used set of the plows that TSC sells, last summer. I re-sold them. They're very heavy for no more than a 2 bottom plow. No coulters either. Let me know if I can help. John

Look around at sales this spring, should be plenty. Sale I was at last Saturday had over a hundred (no kidding) 2 bottom plows (and another hundred 3-5 bottom). Most didnt get a bid. The ones that sold were in good to excellent/rebuilt condition. Price range was $100-$175 per bottom.

Hello, saw your response to the two bottom plows on ytmag. Where or what sale did you find so many two bottom plows? I'm looking for a good one and will travel to get it. Thanks, Deamer

Napier's Consignment Auction, Stanford, KY. They have auctions about once a quarter. They are equipment jockies plus what folks brought in and some USDA foreclosure stuff. Most of the plows are still there. It would be listed as Napier Realty and Auction, Stanford KY, prefix would be either 859 or 606, sorry but I dont have the full phone #.

Regards,
David

You can buy them anyplace they sell tractors with 3 pt. John Deere, Ford (oops Mazda, uh, New Holland) will all sell you these for an arm and leg. TSC has the lighter brands. Your local auctioneer will eventually sell you a heavier, older one. These are sometimes cheap, sometimes not. They are out there, though.
